(New York, NY) – Redshift Productions (featured on ABC News Nightline and CBS Sunday Morning) presents Happy Hour at the Event Horizon, a comedy about physics featuring actors and scientists that takes place in a bar at the edge of a black hole. A two-week limited engagement begins April 21 at the Blue Heron Arts Center Studio Theatre at 123 East 24th Street. Also, in a partnership with The Center for Inquiry - Metro New York, Redshift Productions is hosting a panel discussion series called “Science in the Public Eye” after select matinee performances. It's always Happy Hour at The Event Horizon, a bar at the edge of a black hole where legendary scientific mixologists Albert Einstein and Niels Bohr pass infinite good times with their loyal patrons. Particles collide, customers perform experiments with shot glasses and ashtrays, and the laws of physics come home to roost. Regulars at this establishment include a photon that has daringly escaped from a black hole, the oldest galaxy in the universe who imparts the wisdom of her age, and a gaggle of theories that challenge one another to pub games to determine which one will prevail. Take one part Cheers and one part NOVA and you've got Happy Hour at the Event Horizon.
Redshift Productions created Happy Hour by conducting rehearsals where actors and scientists engage in authentic collaboration. Scientists become improvisers, and actors experiment with scientific concepts in an improvised setting. Further development took place at Happy Hour at the Event Horizon Improvisation Evenings.
Happy Hour at the Event Horizon plays at the Blue Heron Arts Center Studio Theatre from April 21 to May 1, 2005. Tickets are $12, and advance tickets can be purchased through Smarttix at 212-868-4444 or online at www.smarttix.com/show.aspx?showCode=HAP2.
