Bronx arts group En Foco, proudly announces that it has received a $50,000 capacity-building grant from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. “This award comes at a critical time in En Foco’s history and will act as a catalyst for the many exciting programs we have planned,” says Executive Director Miriam Romais, who assumed leadership of the organization in November of 2005. The grant, which will be realized over a two-year period, will allow the organization, which specializes in the featuring the photographic works of artists of color, to both enhance and stabilize its operations. “The Rockefeller Brothers Fund is proud to support En Foco” states Mr. Ben Rodriguez-Cubeñas, Program Director for the foundation. “I was impressed by the commitment of its staff and its long history of helping artists of color. It has done more to promote these artists than many of the larger more established groups,” he continued. En Foco is a non-profit arts organization whose efforts on behalf of Latino artists and other artists of color began in 1974. Among En Foco’s signature programs, is Nueva Luz Photographic Journal and New Works Photography Awards, both of which have provided invaluable to emerging artists nationally. “As funding for the arts becomes more challenging to obtain, En Foco is very pleased to know that the artists and communities that we serve are valued by funders like the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and we recommit ourselves to moving forward with our important mission,” continued Ms. Romais. This sentiment is echoed by Mr. Rodriguez-Cubeñas who concluded, “I look forward to continuing our support and helping En Foco reach new milestones in the coming years.”
