The Virtuous Women are Inspired by Author and Advocate Heidi Lerner

Tune in to ‘The Virtuous Women’, Dr. Taffy Wagner and Ms. Bettye Jamerson, co-hosts of the Literary Corner podcast, this Monday, December 11, 2006 to hear the inspiring tale of Heidi Lerner, survivor of a traumatic brain injury.

Heidi Lerner is the author of ‘Gray Matters’ and has an inspiring story to tell. Heidi suffered a severe traumatic brain injury in 1989 stemming from a car accident. While dealing with all of the cognitive and neurological consequences of her injury, she achieved her Master’s degree in Special Education and specializes in working with survivors of brain injury.

Dr. Taffy and Bettye ask Ms. Lerner about the prevalence of brain injury in the United States and worldwide, the symptoms of a brain injury, rehabilitation, and how to find support for brain injury caregivers and survivors. Heidi also speaks to some of the prevalent myths pertaining to brain injury survivors. Heidi presently facilitates a brain injury hospital support group called "Gray Matters" in Southern California.

Later in the hour, Bettye and Dr. Wagner get personal when they discuss the difficulties Dr. Taffy experienced as a result of her brain injury after being rear-ended in her car. Listen in as Dr. Taffy describes the process of experiencing troubling symptoms after the accident, to being referred to a neurologist and cognitive therapist for further testing.
