Applewood Acres Gardening & Lawn Care - A New ‘Start-Up’ Company That Really Cares- Really!

Two young entrepreneurs are about to take their new business, Applewood Acres Gardening & Lawn Care, and venture into the extremely competitive lawn care business in southern Ontario. Richard Brzakala, Owner and Operator of Applewood Acres Gardening & Lawn Care, has partnered with Pat McKinnon, co-founder of ‘Great Canadian Roaster’s’ to develop a unique and competitive business strategy aimed at attracting residential and commercial gardening clients. Together, they have undertaken an exhaustive marketing and sales campaign that has quickly garnered them many clients in the Toronto municipalities of Mississauga and Etobicoke. “What attracts clients to Applewood Acres Gardening & Lawn Care”, or “Applewood” as Brzakala affectionally refers to it, “is our unique approach of not just offering up a variety of service packages at unbeatable prices, but more importantly our ability to give the client more then they expect”.
“Client’s in today’s market don’t just want their lawn’s cut for a few bucks. They want dependable service from professionals who are willing to invest time and energy in beautifying a clients property.”
Brzakala is quick to point out that, “we are not ‘lawn hackers’ who are in it for a quick buck”. Applewood is committed to ‘tailor-servicing’ our clients, giving them exactly what they want using traditional and organic gardening techniques”.
So what about clients who haven’t a clue about how to maintain the yards? Brzakala says that “for those who are not always certain, we are there to provide professional advise on how to improve growing conditions, naturally and organically, without the use of pesticides”.
In continuing to discuss the virtues of organic gardening, Brzakala goes on to say that “many times our natural processes and commitment to hard work is what stands out about our business and why many residential clients select us for their gardening and lawn care needs.” Brzakala says that “we stress the use of organic and natural maintenance solutions, rather then toxic pesticides that can be a risk to the environment as well our client’s, their families and even their pet’s”.
When questioned about the “natural maintenance solutions”, Brzakala explains, “its simple, we believe in natural compost spreading, using dried sheep manure which contains different amounts of nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, sulphur and micro-nutrients necessary for plant growth. “We find that our ‘compost booster’ “, as Brzakala refers to it, “improves our clients soil stability, decreases soil density, and increases water retention, all vitally important components in maintaining a healthy and natural lawn. Brzakala goes on to say that “ we at Applewood, take extra time to fertilize our clients lawns and garden beds on a regular monthly basis. When it comes to weed control we even go so far as do things the old fashioned and safe way and hand weed our clients lawns and gardens.”
In May 2003, Toronto’s city counsel passed a bylaw that imposed a ban on all pesticide use. To date this by-law has been successfully upheld in a number of court decisions. This has had a detrimental impact on many pesticide and lawn care companies.
With over 21 registered lawn care and gardening companies in and around western Toronto and with probably many times that number of privately owned sole proprietors, the lawn cutting business is extremely competitive.
Many of these companies come and go every year. What makes Applewood a success has to do in large part to Brzakala’s and McKinnon’s attention to detail and hard work
Fortunately for many environmentally conscious consumers there is a company like Applewood Acres Gardening & Lawn Care. It is truly refreshing to witness the rise of a company and its leadership who actually practice what they preach in their ‘old-fashioned’ organic gardening techniques and commitment to service.
It is not surprising to see why residential consumers are attracted to Applewood Acres Gardening & Lawn Care where they do really emphasize the ‘Care’ portion in their company name in all of their client business dealings.
