Throughout 2004 season, the men of the AVP kept fans guessing as seven different teams won a Men’s Final before a repeat and its assured that the excitement will continue in 2005. Even four of the 2004 U.S. Olympians have formed three new teams. New pairs Dain Blanton and Kevin Wong, Stein Metzger teaming up with Jake Gibb, and Dax Holdren hooking up with Jeff Nygaard are all taking aim at 2004 AVP Team of the Year Karch Kiraly and Mike Lambert.
At age 44, Karch is considered the “Michael Jordan” of Pro Beach Volleyball. Like Jordan, he is the oldest player to compete in the sport and continues to perform at the highest level. Last year, he captured his 147th career victory adding to his long list of accolades which include three Olympic gold medals. Kiraly’s partner Mike Lambert dominated the AVP Tour in 2004 taking home honors as the AVP’s MVP and Best Offensive Player.
As Kiraly and Lambert prepare for another big run in 2005, Blanton and Wong, Metzger and Gibb, Holdren and Nygaard, and 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist Eric Fonoimoana and the ‘Hard Hitting Southpaw’ Adam Jewell are all seeking the coveted top spot on the men’s side.
