December 08, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
Toronto, Ontario - Mariana Valente, the reining Miss Latina Canada 2007 takes 3rd World Poverty very seriously. The 5'8", 21 year-old Brazilan beauty has followed in the footsteps of her Miss Latin Canada predecessors by taking a stand against the social inequalities inherent in South American government and social structures.
Ms Valente is the founder of the Brazilian Association for Social and Educational Support (a.k.a B.A.S.E), which has been raising funds here in Canada for the past 4 years to give hope and happiness to children in Brazil over the holidays. Ms Valente's family in Brazil work together with a quaint bed and breakfast, that provide a full day of holiday spirit and fun for over 50 impoverished children and families.
The day starts off with a party for the children and their families where they can play, swim and enjoy special treats such as cotton candy and popcorn – which some have never had the chance to experience before. A Christmas feast is provided where the children can eat as much as they like throughout the day while various games are enjoyed. The most anticipated moment of the day is when Santa arrives to give each child a present and time on his lap. Each gift is personalized with their name and includes
school supplies for their future. Food baskets are given to their families and the day ends with a train ride through the city.
The Miss Latina Canada Charity Foundation is actively supporting and promoting Mariana's cause through a variety of media outlets, in prepartion for our Latin-Canadian Goodwill Ambassador to make her journey back home to Brazil as the official Canadian representative of the Latin Community. Mariana will be deparing from Canada on December 7th with the funds raised
to ensue that the monies reach its required destination, to bring attention to the cause, and to make a political statement that Latina's living in this first world country have not forgotten where they have come from, and will continue to strive to bring international attention to social inequalities that deny access to the basic to education and social support programs.
