JUNGHEINRICH ENHANCES BRAND WITH AGREEMENT TO PRIVATE LABEL FORKLIFT TRUCK BATTERIES IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GNB INDUSTRIAL POWER

RICHMOND, VA – Jungheinrich Lift Truck Corp. has signed an agreement with the GNB Industrial Power division of Exide Technologies whereby GNB will be the primary supplier of batteries for Jungheinrich lift trucks sold in North America. The batteries will also be painted to match Jungheinrich’s signature yellow and will carry the Jungheinrich brand. According to John Sneddon, President of Jungheinrich Lift Truck Corp., “Our goal is to become a major player in the North American market, and our new business partner, GNB Industrial Power, is both willing and able to supply the batteries we need, when we need them – even with our significant growth expectations.”

This agreement helps speed the delivery of Jungheinrich lift trucks to its customers since Jungheinrich technicians will now match up each truck with the correctly-rated battery and charger at its state-of-the-art distribution centers (DCs) in Richmond, VA and Fresno, CA before the truck is shipped for sale. Previously, the batteries were shipped to each Jungheinrich dealer and truck sales office throughout North America, necessitating that they handle the installation of the batteries themselves. Taylor Frederickson, OEM Account Manager at GNB notes, “We’ve also set up ‘quick ship’ inventories on a consignment basis at the Jungheinrich DCs, so in effect we treat their facilities as our own DCs.”

These procedures are unique to the industry, adds Michael Matson, motive power product manager at GNB, “because this is the first instance in North America where a battery manufacturer and a lift truck OEM company have signed such a cooperative agreement.”

To date, GNB is supplying 10 different Jungheinrich branded batteries to the Jungheinrich Distribution Centers.
