COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FOR GREATER NEW HAVEN SUPPORTS THE COVE CENTER FOR GRIEVING CHILDREN

Meriden, CT –The Cove Center for Grieving Children has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven in support of its development and delivery of an Urban Children’s and Teens’ Bereavement Support Program to serve New Haven’s grieving children and families. The Cove will be working in cooperation with local organizations to identify families in need and to provide referrals for placement in the program.Established in 1995, out of the efforts of one family’s personal struggle with grief over the loss of a mother and wife, The Cove Center for Grieving Children serves families from 80 towns at five Cove Sites throughout Connecticut, through The Cove “Good Grief” in School Program, and the Urban/Community Program at centers across the state. In addition, The Cove trains more than 1,200 educators, human service providers and parents each year about the unique circumstances involving childhood bereavement. The Cove provides counseling, referrals and development for professionals dedicated to serving the needs of grieving children.
The Cove is a volunteer-driven, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that receives no state or federal funding, relying instead on individual donations, corporate grants and fundraising activities for support.
Since 1928, donors to The Community Foundation of Greater New Haven have built the community’s endowment currently valued at approximately $250 million. In 2005, The Foundation Board of Directors distributed over $14 million in grants from over 600 different named charitable funds supporting a wide range of programs and projects. The Foundation’s service area includes: Ansonia, Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, Derby, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Milford, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, Oxford, Seymour, Shelton, Wallingford, West Haven and Woodbridge.
