AFRICA OPEN DAY 2005The UK’s first ever Africa Open Day is to take place on the 9th April 2005.
The event is organised by the Africa Media Centre (AMC) and will take place in Euston, London.
This historical event aims at bringing together businesses, embassies, NGOs and other organisations under one roof and is open to the general public.
His Excellency Hon Amanya Mushega, the Secretary General of The East Africa Community has confirmed his attendance and support of the event and will be representing East Africa with a historic speech on the day.
So far, the Kenyan, Ugandan and Tanzanian High Commissions and embassies are deeply involved and contributing to the event and the number of countries pledging their support has continued to grow.
Speaking on the impending historical event, Mr Gakuru Macharia of the Africa Media Centre (AMC) said: “We are totally convinced that the event will provide an excellent platform for networking and the promotion of products, goods and services from various organisations. Campaigns such as Make Poverty History, Feed The World and Africa 2005 show that we need to make a lot of economic progress by ourselves. Africa is so blessed that the continent should have a very vibrant economy and positive events like Africa Open Day will make it happen at some stage. Hopefully it would not be too long from now before we eventually get there.
“In addition to African businesses being present, we also welcome ‘economic friends’ of Africa; those companies or businesses that do a lot of business with the continent. This event would be a real ‘eye-opener’ for many people who are used to hearing only the negative things about Africa. With the backing of various African governments and businesses in the UK, Africa Open Day hopes to become an annual event to pencil into ones diary.”
