ELIZABETH – Following two years of extensive renovations to the former Union County Trust Company on Broad Street in Elizabeth, Silcon Group (www.silcongroup.net) has relocated its national headquarters to the building.

“The rehabilitation and restoration of this majestic 1909 building is our contribution to the ongoing efforts to redevelop Elizabeth’s midtown business district,” said Carlos J. Silva, Chairman & CEO of Silcon Group. “When we took possession of this building, it had been empty for years and had fallen into disrepair. We recognized its enormous potential, and felt it was the right time to undertake this significant restoration project.”

“As someone who grew up in this city, it has been an honor to refurbish this old bank and create a corporate headquarters that is like no other,” Silva added. “It is my sincere hope that other businesses will follow our lead, aiding in the ongoing renaissance of midtown Elizabeth.”

Adjacent to the Midtown Train Station, the new Silcon headquarters is renovated to highlight many of the architectural accents of the structure. Rather than build new walls to conceal the original décor, workers spent eight months restoring the original columns and the gold leafing.

While the building was constructed nearly 100 years ago, Silcon has wired the building to accommodate a modern-day construction and real estate company. The building now features a state-of-the-art data center with environmental controls, the latest in networked telecommunications and high-definition monitors displaying Silcon projects via webcam in real time.

Silva said his company spent more than $1 million to create interior space that highlights the original architecture, while blending in new colors and materials to emphasize the building’s new use. Silcon is housing its offices on the second and third floors of the 16,000-square-foot structure; the first floor has been leased to Synergy Bank.

“We are proud of the painstaking craftsmanship involved in rehabilitating this building,” Silva said. “We completely overhauled the structure without imposing on the historical architectural elements. Broad Street will now be our home for many years to come.”
