A fitting milestone in the history of Horizon Moving Systems’ role in helping metropolitan Tucson grow, is the recent move of what could be Pima County’s one millionth resident, as reported by the Arizona Daily Star.Either Cathy or Robert Peterson formerly of Chandler, Ariz., – or one of their two young sons – is believed to be the one-millionth person to arrive in the Old Pueblo, landing there Saturday, Nov. 11, via Horizon Moving Systems. The Peterson family has chosen to live in Oro Valley, a Tucson suburb, northwest of downtown.
Two moving industry veterans, Percy Hill, who has been with the Horizon for 28 years, and Tom Hess, a 12-year driver for Horizon, relocated the Petersons.
“Our growth as a company has paralleled Tucson’s growth,” said Bruce L. Dusenberry, Horizon’s president and the third-generation Dusenberry to head the family-owned moving company. “We’re proud to be part of Tucson’s history, as well as its future.”
Formerly known as City Van and Storage, Horizon Moving Systems was founded by C.R. Dusenberry in Tucson, Ariz., in 1924. From its beginnings with one truck, the company has expanded to a current fleet of more than 150 trucks and six branch locations. Today, the Tucson branch alone has more than 110 employees, 13 long-distance vans, and 96,000 square feet of warehouse space. Over the past 75 years, the Tucson branch has served as the corporate office and has employed hundreds of men and women who have made Horizon one of the most progressive and successful transportation companies in Arizona.
