Knitters Join Forces For Charity
November 30, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
(Los Angeles, CA) November 30, 2006 – On Saturday, December 9th, from 11-1, knitters and crocheters will be gathering for one purpose — to use their skills and knowledge for children in need. The event will start with a brief talk by two charity knitting organizations, Stitches from the Heart and Knitzilla, followed by a question-and-answer period.
At 11:30 a preemie hat knit-along begins, open to beginning and experienced knitters and crocheters alike. The participants will each receive a preemie hat pattern and together will knit or crochet their own baby hat, to be donated to Stitches from the Heart. People who can't make it in person are invited to participate in an online knit-along and mail in their donations. In addition, That Yarn Store is setting a challenge for the knitting community, to create and send in 100 donations of preemie hats, preemie sweaters, and hats for teens by December 31st.
Stitches from the Heart is an organization which delivers hand-made items to premature babies. Knitzilla, provides hats to Big City Mountaineers, a non-profit providing wilderness trips for urban teens. Those who would like to help, but don't yet knit can attend a beginning knitting class at That Yarn Store any Saturday at 2:00 pm to learn the basics of knitting.
That Yarn Store in Eagle Rock is located at 1578 Colorado Blvd, Los Angeles. It is a family-owned, community-oriented gathering place. Knitters and crocheters will find comfy couches, music nights, knitting and crochet classes, and great yarn.
