Finding Inspiration in Adversity

Fort Lauderdale, August 2006: Hard times come in many guises. Careers that go nowhere, delayed ambi-tions, monetary reversals and lingering illnesses are but a few. However, it is when these are incorporated into a catastrophic situation, such as the onslaught of nature that was Hurricane Katrina, that we feel utterly impotent and alone. Wayne D. Carriere’s book, Inspirational Perspectives of a Katrina Storm Victim, helps us find solace and hope in such devastating times.

The events of this record hurricane could break a person; or they can be used to help others see what it takes to conquer any trial of this life - faith. Faith, hope, and the recognition of the mean-ing of events in one's life turned a negative experience (a Category 5 hurricane) into a positive comprehen-sion of life (faith). We all go through setbacks; we just have to learn how to ‘bounce back’ from them. We can still move forward with our lives and become something better through tragedy. This fervor, for demon-strating that a positive outlook can override despair and tragedy, is contagious.

About the Author:
Wayne D. Carriere was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in April, 1963, in Charity Hospital. He was raised in the Catholic faith and has attended Catholic private schools throughout his scholastic life. He graduated from Corpus Christi Elementary School, St. Augustine High School, and Loyola University in New Orleans. Wayne has lived with his girlfriend and son in Thibodaux, Louisiana since the hurricane.
