(New York) ‘Million Dollar Baby’ sparring partner Maureen Shea bruises her way into the Big Apple Con: Comic Book, & Toy Show for a one day appearance, Saturday, April 2nd. A rising star in women’s boxing and a Golden Gloves contender, Shea was a sparring partner and trainer to academy award winning actress, Hillary Swank. The two trained together for over four months in preparation for the role of the unbeatable Maggie Fitzgerald.“She trained just like a boxer. There was no special star treatment for her," Shea said of her starlet sparring partner, who added almost 20 pounds of muscle for the role. "She was humble, and I didn’t get any sense of that plasticity that Hollywood is known for."
A real life lady superhero, Shea overcame a troubled youth in the Bronx through the focus and meditation of boxing. Miss Shea will be available to discuss Million Dollar Baby and Women’s Boxing from 1pm-6pm. At 3:30pm Shea will give audiences a special Boxing demonstration followed by a Q&A discussion.
