Hidden Shoal Recordings Release Moongoat EP

The Australian digital music label, Hidden Shoal Recordings, today announced the pre-release of the self titled EP by Australian ambient experimental ambient outfit, Moongoat

On their debut release through Hidden Shoal Recordings, Moongoat have produced an EP laced with a wonderfully unsettling immersion. Playing out like a planted distant memory, each track describes a unfolding atmosphere that slowly becomes whole as it fills the room like a gas.

Perhaps as an unconscious response to Eno’s experiments with music for imaginary films, this is music as film. Following in the path of modern ambient luminaries, Stars of the Lid, Moongoat work to create something larger than the drone. These compositions are deceptively complex and chart a hidden trajectory that is never quite apparent until their end.

Moongoat are a two piece hailing from Perth, Western Australia. Simon Bennett (Wiggle, Kwook, Kurrel The Raven) and Jeremy Hicks (Enargeia, Low Budget Invaders) create a creepy place, one where rac-ing cars swoop through the night and doors creak and slam. A place beyond the earth and the stars.

Moongoat have been bottling this electricity since 2003, when they, along with former member Ivan Bannon, were commissioned to provide the soundtrack for the Australian fashion show, “Bamboozle”. Several months of live studio jams were presented as a four hour tag-team set on the night played through a 10,000 watt P.A. powerful enough to make the venue windows bow out at alarming angles at prescribed moments.

The results of these sonic explorations will form the basis of a series of releases through Hidden Shoal Recordings, kicking off with the self titled EP pre-released today.

Simon Bennett is a former member of Japanese group Wiggle, has several releases as Kwook and has a proflific output as Kurrel The Raven. Jeremy Hicks is a New Zealand native, former member of Thou Gideon, Harry Death and a current member of Enargeia with Mal Riddoch, and Low Budget Invaders with Sarah Turvey.

The self titled Moongoat EP is now available as a pre-release in the HSR Store. The album will see official release in January where it will be available in Itunes, eMusic and Sony Connect stores globally.
