Upcoming Gay Social Community, QueensSpeech, to use Innovative Technology to Place Content in Hands of Users
November 24, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
QueensSpeech is currently looking for volunteer channel editors who will ensure quality control, by shaping and directing content. Unlike other gay sites, QueensSpeech will be less about dating and sex and more about building a community. Users will be able to build their own web pages easily, meet other like-minded members and communicate with both friends and strangers. The site will also feature independent gay musicians, artists and independent film makers and will include podcasting, video, music and photo sharing.
QueensSpeech will allow its users to publish their content using blogs, articles and user generated discussions through a network of linked personal pages. “We want to give the whole gay community a voice, their chance to publish what they want on their site,” said Matthew Ogston, co-founder of QueensSpeech.com.
Ogston firmly believes that the gay community is hungry for a quality social web site. “Currently there aren’t many good sites out there for gay users, most are heavily sex orientated and are extremely dated in their look and feel,” he continued. “We are designing the network to be inclusive and truly representative for gays, lesbians, the trans and other communities, for all ages and interests.”
The new site is free to register and will be launching January 2007. However, pre-registration is now open to everyone at www.QueensSpeech.com.
A dedicated blog is available for visitors who want to be kept up to date with the project as it develops at www.QueensSpeech.com/blog
Technology Background
The way we access information online is changing. New websites employing ‘web 2.0’ technologies are transforming the way information is accessed and published online.
Web 2.0 is the catch-all phrase used to describe websites where the content is generated by end users rather than by the site owner. Some of the most popular examples are social-networking sites like MySpace, picture and video-sharing sites like Flickr and YouTube. The success of new ‘social’ websites using Web 2.0 technology is phenomenal. Their popularity lies in their ability to enable users to create their own web pages, congregate in groups and communicate with friends and strangers.
