Old unwanted mobile phones raise over £4000 for charity

Over three-quarters of the UK population will replace or upgrade their current mobile phone in the next 18 months. That's around 18 million mobiles bought each year yet fewer than 5% of unwanted handsets will be recycled.

To improve this situation Oxfam has created the Bring Bring Scheme as an easy and environmentally friendly way to dispose of your unwanted mobile phones. Donated mobiles are processed by Oxfam and either dismantled and recycled or repaired, refurbished and reused.

Mobiles.co.uk is Oxfam's first online mobile retail partner. Every time a customer buys online from Mobiles.co.uk, they'll receive a freepost bag to donate their unwanted handset to Oxfam. So far this has raised over £4000 for third-world countries while at the same time diverting potentially toxic electronic waste from landfill sites.
