Richmond, Va. (Nov. 19, 2006) — SUBWAY® Restaurants are known for providing healthy options and good value to hungry diners, but this Thanksgiving Richmond-area SUBWAY owners will be helping to feed the hungry in a much more meaningful way. Local franchisees have banded together to donate 40 12-lb. turkeys, three party platters, napkins, cutlery and assorted condiments – cumulatively valued at more than $600 – to The Giving Heart for use at its Community Thanksgiving Feast for the needy.Back after a one-year hiatus, the Community Thanksgiving Feast has served nearly 20,000 meals to Richmond-area residents in the previous six years. The event, sponsored by The Giving Heart nonprofit organization, relies entirely on volunteers and donations to provide a hearty meal to the elderly, homeless and lonely on Thanksgiving. “No one will be turned away,” says The Giving Heart Executive Director Vicky Neilson. “We are confident that the Richmond community will step up and help us once again bring the true spirit of Thanksgiving to the people in our area who might not otherwise be able to celebrate the holiday.”
“On behalf of the 123 SUBWAY Restaurants in the greater Richmond area, we are extremely pleased to provide The Giving Heart with this donation,” said Mark Fye, owner of the SUBWAY in the Oxbridge Square Shopping Center. “As local business owners, we have much to be thankful for, and this is just one small way we wanted to give back to the community.”
