Detroit, MI – NetPrep (http://www.netprep.us), a Detroit-based after school tutoring program, has formed a unique partnership with Stanford University’s Education Program for Gifted Youth (EPGY). The partnership provides free online tutoring in math and Language Arts (English) to students in grades 2 - 8. To be eligible, students must attend a Detroit Public School and qualify for Supplemental Educational Services (SES). The tutoring is offered through NetPrep Academies that are located throughout Detroit in community organizations and churches. Most NetPrep Academies are within walking distance from a student’s school. After completing the seven-week NetPrep Academy, students receive a free computer. A list of NetPrep Academy locations can be found at www.netprep.us.“We are extremely pleased to be the sole provider of such a high level of educational assistance to DPS students through our partnership with Stanford University – as well as local churches and community organizations,” said Darchelle S. Love, Executive Director of NetPrep. The EPGY tutoring program is customized to a student’s academic level through an early assessment. The program tutors students from beginning to advanced levels in each subject. Students receive after-school tutoring four days each week for a period of seven weeks. A certified teacher and teaching assistant are on site at each NetPrep Academy to supervise the online learning sessions.
“We want to ensure that students not only improve – but learn to excel - in the all-important academic basics of math and English,” continued Love. Parents are encouraged to sign up for NetPrep tutoring before the November 18 application deadline to give their child world-class instruction from Stanford University and an opportunity for a free computer.
Parents must select NetPrep as an SES tutoring provider before November 18, 2006. Any DPS parent whose child is entitled to free tutoring (SES) but has not received an application for free tutoring should call the Detroit Public Schools at (313) 873-3215.
