Dya Singh begins yet another everlasting chapter of Sikh Music with the release of the much-awaited double CD album 'Asa Di Var'. The new double CD album contains two hours of morning prayers in a traditional style. The album also comes with a beautifully wrapped gutka (prayer book) with translations in English.

Based on a historic collection of pauris (stanzas), 'Asa Di Var' in the true sense reflects the group's collective strength and a versatile and vibrant approach. 'Asa Di Var' is basically the raga of pre-dawn hours and this album convincingly captures the delicate and serenading mood of the dawn. The album revitalizes the whole idea of music being associated with different fractions of the day, which forms the basic essence of Indian music.

Speaking on the innovative approach to this album, Dya Singh says, “We have kept the album congregational rather than a sophisticated sterile rendition. Ten voices are involved including four tabla and dholki players in addition to our musicians, which qualify as 'sangat' - traditional Sikh music. Dilruba, mandolin and guitar are the heart of this sound that has taken almost two years in the making.”

For Dya, whose childhood has been spent in Malaysia, the album has a special relevance. “The album is a reflection of my background from Malaysia and I was able to include some Malaysian naujawans (youths). Furthermore, it has rough edges to enhance the 'live' feel of this prayer. To be honest, it is a sort of trip down memory lane for me,” he says. 'Asa Di Var' is one such collection of unforgettable music that will now be available for everyone to relish.
