Ascent Scientific launches low-cost Kainic Acid – a vital research tool for neuroscientists

November 08, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Ascent Scientific (www.ascentscientific.com) announced the addition of Kainic acid to the Low-Cost Ligand™ range. This standard tool is widely used by scientists – helping research into a vast range of medical conditions including pain, epilepsy, cognitive and neurodegenerative disorders.

Kainic acid is isolated from certain species of seaweed, and acts on a group of protein structures in the brain, that are known as the ionotropic glutamate receptors. Other ionotropic glutamate receptor tools in the Low-Cost Ligand™ range include D-AP5, NBQX and MK801.

Steve Roome PhD, Commercial Director commented, “Kainic acid is used by researchers worldwide, but up until now, many laboratories have struggled to purchase it and limited their research, due to the high price demanded by other suppliers. In addition, availability has been erratic. We are pleased to be able to offer an alternative supply of this vital research tool at a price up to 50% less than other suppliers – with the Ascent Scientific pledge to exceptional quality.”
