United States, Great Britain and Australia To Observe 'International Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Awareness Day' November 12
November 11, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) support groups both domestic and overseas are planning special activities to promote CJD awareness and to remember those loved-ones who died from the disease. "CJD Aware! contacted CJD support groups domestic and overseas to see if they were planning any activity on this special day. They were asked to send information to our office, and we would post it on our website," commented Lori Brom, CJD Aware! volunteer/coordinator. CJD Aware! is a non-profit, information organization based in New Orleans, Louisiana.
It was founded in the spring of 2002 after the death of the founder's mother
from the sporadic form of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. "CJD Aware! plans to have a Remembrance Page on our website beginning November 12.,"remarked
Ms. Brom. "The Page will list the names of individuals who have died from this disease, the date of their death and the state where they died.
Organizers from The Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Foundation, Inc. (Akron, Ohio), CJD Alliance and the CJD Support Group Network (Great Britain), and the Australian CJD Support Group have submitted their proposed plans and those plans will be posted.
CJD Aware! has also received word that Governor Donald L. Carcieri from Rhode Island has signed a CJD proclamation proclaiming November 12-18, 2006 as 'Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Awareness Week' in his state. "We were so pleased
to hear the news about Rhode Island," commented Christy Brom, the founder/director of CJD Aware! "We also wish to thank Melissa Behm, who was our out-of-state sponsor/volunteer for assisting us with this request. CJD Awareness Week is an ongoing campaign of ours to reach a goal of all 50-states, and now we're half-way there. New York State and Utah are currently pending."
If there is any other CJD support group who plans to do something special for November 12, please contact our office and we'll be glad to post the information. We encourage everyone to join us in observance of 'International Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Awareness
Day'.
