Businesses of all sizes that sign up in the month of November are welcome to participate in no-charge Disaster Recovery workshops that will be held in Alpharatta, Georgia during the month of December 2006.

CRC will teach current state of the art technology and methods for performing hot backups of Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle — showing how these critical, always available, systems can be backed up safely — without taking them down.

In addition, CRC will explain current methods of bare metal restore; how it works, and why it is important.

Finally, CRC will explain the lifecycle of data. We view data differently as it ages, and since data from years ago may be very important during discovery or audit we must keep it safe. However, this 'dormant' data is not critical to day-to-day operations. Therfore, it is important that companies store data cost efficiently — meaning that critical data is stored in a way that is instantly available, but dormant data is stored on a slightly slower device — just as safely — but at much lower cost.

While the above technology is essential in any disaster recovery plan, what is more important is a system of ensuring that as things change within an organization that the data protection strategies evolve with them. For example: programs are upgraded and installed frequently. Each update or install is an opportunity for a user to create data that may not get backed up.
