BoSox Club Awards Emmy-Winner Dick Flavin with Prestigious Brad Jernegan Award “Teddy at the Bat” performer to be honored for his dedication to the Red Sox at the BoSox Club annual event

BOSTON – Oct. 31, 2006 – The BoSox Club, the official booster club of the Boston Red Sox, today announced that it has selected author, motivational speaker and humorist Dick Flavin as the recipient of the Brad Jernegan Award. Flavin was chosen for his continuing contributions to The BoSox Club and his life-long love for the Boston Red Sox.

Flavin, BoSox Club director and member, will be honored at The BoSox Club annual meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006 at The Quincy Marriott, Quincy, Mass.

The meeting will honor Flavin, and include appearances by Mike Dee, Chief Operating Officer, Jed Hoyer, Assistant General Manager, and Jim Lonborg, ’67 Cy Young Winner and Red Sox Hall of Fame pitcher.

Best-known by Red Sox fans for his performance of “Teddy at the Bat” in front of 25,000 fans during a Fenway Park memorial to the late Ted Williams, Flavin is a seven-time Emmy Award-winner for television writing and commentary, and is heralded as one of America’s leading speakers and writers.

Flavin will join the likes of Johnny Pesky, former Red Sox manager and Pesky’s Pole namesake, and Dom Dimaggio, first president of The BoSox Club and former Red Sox centerfielder, along with many other Red Sox enthusiasts, management and staff, as winners of the Brad Jernegan Award.

“The BoSox Club is pleased to bestow this honor upon Dick Flavin for his contributions to, and passion towards, Red Sox Nation,” said Ed Keohane, president of the BoSox Club. “While most of us know him best for ‘Teddy at the Bat,’ Dick’s relationship with the team goes much deeper than that, and we are grateful for it.”

Named in honor of the late Brad Jernegan, president of The BoSox Club in 1970 and 1971, this award acknowledges those who have made special contributions to the Red Sox.
