GRAND PERFORMANCES RECEIVES $75,000 FROM CCF TO EXPAND AUDIENCES, NURTURE ARTISTS FROM LOS ANGELES’ DIVERSE CULTURAL COMMUNITIES

Los Angeels' premiere free performing arts presenter, Grand Performances, received a $75,000 grant fron the California Community Foundation (CCF). The organization is one of only 3 arts organizations (of a total of 10 organizations)that received this funding as recognition of its importance in bringing Los Angeles' diverse communities together through its global art programming.

Grand Performances’ Board Chair Craig Bloomgarden announced today that Los Angeles premier free outdoor performing arts presenter has received a $75,000 two-year grant from the California Community Foundation (CCF) to provide support for the organization’s continued mission of nurturing artists and increasing audiences from Los Angeles’ diverse cultural communities.

Mr. Bloomgarden stated “I am proud that Grand Performances was one of only three arts organizations to be recognized with a grant from a new program initiated by the California Community Foundation to support a wide range of community-based organizations that have a history of reaching people throughout Los Angeles. The impact of this grant will be evident on our stage and in our audience next summer when our 2007 season begins.”

“Our core activities need this type of funding each year. The Foundation’s grant is welcomed recognition of our importance to the community,” said Executive Director, Michael Alexander.

A total of 10 non-profit Los Angeles County organizations offering programs and services in the arts, human development, health and education were awarded over $1 million dollars. This grant gives Grand Performances the resources to continue to develop and promote programs that encourage cross – cultural understanding and audience participation from the city’s diverse communities through targeted outreach in community-based and ethnic-specific media while presenting emerging and/or mid-career Los Angeles-based artists whose work is also rooted in the city’s ethnically diverse communities.
