It started out as a hobby when Bumatay would photograph architecture, people, landscapes or anything interesting. He used these images as sources of reference for various illustration gigs. At this time, photography was for reference and for fun. Bumatay never dreamed of becoming a professional photographer. He was successful as an illustrator and animator, but he eventually found himself in a corporate job in the area of IT Support for several years. During this time he started photographing weddings part time and found that he enjoyed the interaction with people as he took photos. His true passion for photography began to emerge. The more weddings he photographed the more he learned to become artistic and create unique images. People caught on to Bumatay’s style and he was soon booked up for the entire year ahead. When he was laid of his corporate job in December 2005, he found the opportunity to focus on photography full time.Bumatay adds his own artistic approach to pictures by capturing emotion and placing the subjects in front of architectural backgrounds. His images are modern, romantic, and timeless. Bumatay books clients from all over Southern California, and some from as far as Louisiana or San Francisco. He is now available to travel worldwide for destination weddings. Bumatay attributes much of his success in his ability to be personable with every client. “It is so much more rewarding when I become friends with each client and they know I will go all out for them as far as picture quality, service, and trust. This makes a difference because they are entrusting their memories to me.”
Bumatay still gets amazed about being able to pursue his passion because not too long ago he was working in the corporate world. His company is less than two years old, but he already enjoys a six-figure income doing what he loves to do. “Sometimes I still can’t believe I was into photography as a hobby, and now I’m doing it full time!” His studio is scheduled to expand in 2007.
