Web 2.0 Goes to Washington

Just in time for the political mudslinging of the final weeks of the campaign, a new online tool has been introduced to help concerned citizens make voting decisions based on the opinions of those THEY trust. The tool, called Pollstir, is free and can be found at www.pollstir.com. "There are all kinds of polls out there, except for a poll of the people I personally trust," said Joe Free of Zeryn Inc., "With Pollstir now anyone can invite their friends, family, colleagues, candidates—even their obnoxious brother-in-law—to give their opinion on current ballots." The Pollstir service facilitates invitations, collects the feedback, graphs the results, and creates a "personal election guide."
Initially conceived as a tool to help its creators make sense of the piles of political mailings by asking what their more politically informed friends thought, Pollstir is now available to the public and is a free service. "We agree with John Adams," concludes Joe, "'Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people.' We hope this tool will help the general knowledge grow."
