Pomona, CA –TagWorld.com’s Patricia Dao met up with Cute Is What We Aim For at Bamboozle Left 06’ at the Cal Poly Pomona Athletic Field to talk about the band’s tour and the latest on what they’ve been up to. Patricia: So we’re at Bamboozle today, how excited are you guys to be here?
Tom: Pretty excited, I can’t wait!
Jeff: Very excited. I’m excited yes.
Patricia: Are you guys currently on tour right now? Is this just a pit-stop for you?
Jack: We’re on tour right now, with Hello Goodbye, Ozma and… and a band called Peachcake.
Patricia: And are you fans of those bands?
Tom: Yeah, they’re awesome!
Patricia: You guys exploded pretty quickly, I mean how has that changed for you guys?
Shaant: The only that’s changed is we get to roll on a bus. Nothing’s changed, that’s it. Um….., um, we get treated a little better by security. But that’s about it, yeah.
Patricia: And what were you guys doing before the band?
Tom: Uh, I was in school.
Patricia: Yeah, where’d you go?
Tom: I went to Sweet Home High school
Patricia: Is that where you guys all met?
Shaant: No, actually, kind of in the music scene. Like we were all in bands in Buffalo and then we met Jack on tour. So, yeah.
Patricia: Cool, and so where is your hometown?
Tom: Buffalo, New York
Patricia: Do you get to go visit home?
Tom: I do, twice
Patricia: All you guys are from Buffalo?
Jack: No, Chicago, yeah.
Patricia: Cool, so now you have an album out now. Do you guys want to talk about that?
Shaant: We have an album out.
Patricia- What’s it called? What does it sound like?
Shaant: Uh, it’s called the single, Bloodrush with a new touch. It’s just powerpop, rock. That’s uh fun, summerish, ……….mmm yeah, that’s pretty much it.
Patricia: Any videos coming up for your new single?
Shaant: We’re gonna do a video for The Curse of Curves-that’s the next single coming out. Then there’s one for There’s a Class For This as of now- but yeah, that’ll be filmed in probably about a month
Patricia: Very cool. And do you want to tell TagWorld-you guys are doing really well right now. We have 3 million members, 12 thousand bands. And people just love you guys. Is there anything you want to tell the bands out there?
Tom: Just, be safe.
Jeff: I just want to say thanks so much for supporting us. It’s amazing!
Patricia: I mean, we have a lot of unsigned bands, and they’re just trying to break. Do you have any advice?
Tom: Can’t give up
Shaant: I’d definitely say to any band, to unsigned bands in general-Don’t give up. Keep trying and never forget what it feels like to be unsigned. Because our mentality everyday is uh, we don’t deserve what we have. We’ve just been very fortunate. So it’s just a matter of keeping yourself grounded and keeping that desire, that spark alive to pursue what you want to do and get bigger.
Patricia: How did you guys initially start out, I mean before you were signed. What were some techniques that you used?
Shaant: Demoed in my bedroom and then just put your stuff up online, which I’m sure a lot of you are doing. And that’s pretty much it. There’s really no tactic you know what I mean. We’re really fortunate we just kind of caught on, but for the most part. Yeah just, don’t be scared. Take your time and….just show the world what you can do.
Patricia: How about you, any advice for the unsigned bands?
Jack: Just keep doing it, play shows. I mean, the best thing you can do is just try to tour, as hard as it is for bands that don’t have funs or anything like that. Just try to tour. Put yourself online.
Jack: And send messages….you could download the robots or whatever, but those are kind of expensive. I don’t know if you want to do that. Um definitely, just set up stuff online, like TagWorld. Put your stuff up on that, yeah and hopefully people will get it, listen to it…and you could get signed.
Patricia: Cool. And just going back to you guys and your sound, for those guys that don’t know you, who would you best describe yourselves like and who were your inspirations?
Tom: I don’t know.
Patricia: You got some…
Tom: I don’t know. Who’s our inspiration, Jack’s Mannequin.
Jeff: Foreman when we first started out, like a rocket summerish sort of feel, also with more hard rock to it.
Patricia: So who’s in your CD players right now?
Shaant: If we owned CD players, I think it would be 1998, but uh, in our ipods. Uh, this sounds stupid, I listen to a lot of Blood For Blood now and the new New Found Glory and wait, there’s one more that I’m hooked on…well Justin Timberlake yeah but no uh, yeah I’m not gonna get in oh my god. But, I listen to it a lot, I don’t know…
Patricia- Kelly Clarkson?
Shaant: No, my girlfriend….
Patricia: Kelly’s great. Did you say JT?
Tom: Justin Timberlake
Patricia: You a fan?
Tom: It’s such a good CD!
Patricia: Ok, so do you guys want to have one last shout-out, anything that you want to say to your fans out there in TagWorld-land?
Jack: Thank you, above all. Thank you so much!
Shaant: That’s it, just thank you. Like, there’s nothing else we could say…and keep doing what you do. And be safe as Tom would say.
Patricia: Alright, so that’s it. Check them out at TagWorld.com slash Cute Is What We Aim For. Take care.
