BEYOND THE INK: ATLANTA TATTOO ARTIST UNVEILS NEW PAINTINGS
October 26, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
Over the last few decades tattoo artists have approached their craft with vigor, combining fine art techniques with the edgy, gritty style most associate with the profession. Celebrated Atlanta tattoo artist Mi-YAH has emerged as a leader in “fine art tattooing,” creating soulful designs that capture the spirit of his clients. But his talent ventures beyond the ink. A gifted painter as well, he will unveil new work at Subculture Clash, a new art experience launched by ArtMix Atlanta. Mi-YAH got his start as a tattoo artist in his hometown of Asheville, NC but in the late 90s, inspired by his brother who’s also a painter, Mi-YAH turned his attention to the canvas. He discovered he was gifted with both ink and paint and developed both skills. The connection between the two had always been apparent to Mi-YAH. “In my hometown 95% of the tattoo shops are also art galleries, so it's a nice balance of both art forms,” he says. While you can find Mi-YAH in his shop on any given day inking clients, he’ll be showing his new work at The Mark Ultralounge on November 10th at ArtMix Atlanta’s Subculture Clash, a show you won’t want to miss.
ArtMix Atlanta was founded to provide exposure for young urban artists under the age of 40. The organization’s first series “Shaken + Stirred” featured the work of popular graffiti artists Sever and Hense as well as the work of local artistic duo Tindelmichi. Next month the organization launches a new series, Subculture Clash, which features the work of Mi-YAH, Seven, and Rolling Out illustrator Craig Singleton, also known as Flux. The show features a juxtaposition of styles and media resulting in a unique visual experience heightened by the music of DJs George Lukin and Masevo, who is soon to bid farewell and return to Japan.
Supporters of ArtMix Atlanta include AirTran Airways, Sam Flax and J Records. The organization welcomes BeatSmith Media as its newest sponsor. Additionally, ArtMix Atlanta has pledged a portion of the proceeds from the evening to be donated to AID Atlanta.
