Tamar Science Park invests in the future with Redstone Converged Solutions

As Science Park continues to increase in size, Redstone Converged Solutions provides scalable IT infrastructure

20th October 2006 -Tenants of Plymouth-based Tamar Science Park (TSP), one of the fastest growing science parks in the UK, are now reaping the benefits of varying types of Internet connectivity and secure, reliable ICT thanks to a flexible data network infrastructure designed and delivered jointly by Redstone Converged Solutions and Tamar Science Park.

Having previously outsourced its Internet requirements to a third party, TSP decided to manage the provision of all network services internally, creating additional key value-added services for its tenant companies. With tenants ranging from sole traders to organisations with up to 50 employees, each tenant’s ICT requirements differ considerably. Therefore, Redstone Converged Solutions and TSP delivered an integrated network infrastructure to the whole site with a focus on enabling technology to provide maximum flexibility when provisioning services.

Jonathan Harris, ICT operations manager, TSP said: “Thanks to the expertise of Redstone Converged Solutions, we now have a scalable, flexible infrastructure that will grow as TSP’s number of tenants increases. By bringing the provision of these services in-house, we are able to closely manage the network, promote it as a key service to potential, new and existing tenants and to integrate it with IP-ready managed telephony services.”

The network infrastructure now paves the way for the next phase of evolution of TSP. £24 million is due to be invested in its next phase of expansion and this will effectively double the size of the park, offering new facilities such as a design enterprise centre, pre-incubation space, a bistro and grow-on units for tenants emerging from their incubation period.

The project saw the roll-out of a resilient layer 3 switching infrastructure, wireless hotspots for public broadband access, bandwidth management systems, resilient firewalling and an overall network management system for reporting and alerting.

Eventually, TSP plans to converge its telephony system with its new network infrastructure providing yet more flexibility and choice for tenants.
