ValueFirst Launches SMS Helpline for Women employees @ 6070

October 2006, Gurgaon

Gurgaon, 2006 – ValueFirst launched a SMS helpline for women employees, which was inaugurated by Dr. Girija Vyas in “BPO best practices in Employee Security” held in Gurgaon on 6th October.

Employee security has become a serious concern for BPOs especially after few incidents which took place recently. The brutal rape and murder of a female BPO employee in Bangalore and subsequent protests by IT-ITES employees in the city, complaining of lack of security for employees — especially women, while commuting to and fro work at odd hours — has put the industry on the defensive and it is reviewing employees' security. As the BPO employees have to join and leave the office at erratic times, women security is of prime importance to BPOs.

BPO News in association with CCAI (Call centre association of India) and NCW (National commission for women) organized a conference on “BPO best practices in Employee Security”, which was attended by the delegates from state government IT departments and leading BPOs.

The conference brought to light new technologies being used to ensure employee security. A presentation on Vehicle tracking system was given by the MD of Micro Technologies and Mr. Vijay Shukla, Country Head, ValueFirst presented on the use of mobile messaging services (SMS) being used for ensuring employee security.

Dr. Girija Vyas, also unveiled the SMS helpline (6070 help) being offered by ValueFirst as a public service for the employee security. Using this helpline, any employee can send in the SMS to the number 6070 (SMS help GNG <txt>) which would then be automatically forwarded to the police department of Gurgaon. The service would be available nationwide on all operators and the user will have to just type the three letter abbreviation of the city.

Speaking at the launch ceremony Mr. Deepak Kapoor, CEO and founder BPO News, said, “BPOs should seek the help of latest technologies to resolve the problem of Women security”. “ValueFirst also plans to launch a paid service for the employee security, which will be much more feature rich than the current service which is free for all employees”, said Mr. Vijay Shukla, Country Head, ValueFirst (www.vfirst.com).
