Telford, Pa. — With the launch of its renewable fuel resource, Bioheat™, Farm & Home Oil Company demonstrates its leadership in the oil industry, investment in our region’s agriculture and environment, and important role in energy independence. “Farm & Home recognizes that the future of energy lies in renewable fuel, and today we’re excited to take a monumental step in our company’s history,” said Rich Longacre, Chief Executive Officer, Farm & Home Oil Company, at the launch ceremony held at its Macungie terminal. “As we introduce Bioheat™ and biodiesel fuel, we’re helping to better our environment, support American farmers, deliver a quality product to our customers, and reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil.”
Starting this winter, Farm & Home will provide Bioheat™, a blend of heating oil and soy-based biodiesel, to homes. Trucks (including the company’s own fleet) will receive biodiesel fuel, a blend of ultra low-sulfur diesel and soy-based biodiesel.
“I congratulate Farm & Home on this important day for southeastern Pennsylvania,” said Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff. “Agriculture is Pennsylvania’s number one industry and vital to the commonwealth’s economy. This introduction of a renewable fuel resource is a boon to our farmers and furthers Governor Rendell’s PennSecurity Fuels Initiative to build a clean energy future.”
According to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as much as 40 million gallons of biofuel production is expected to come on line over the next year in the commonwealth, making Pennsylvania the leader in soy-based fuels production nationwide. 1
John Huber, President, National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA), shared his remarks at the Farm & Home ceremony: “Renewable fuel is a giant step in energy conservation. Farm & Home is part of this progress by providing Bioheat™ to homes, requiring no investment or changes in equipment by customers.”
Longacre added, “With additional advancements in technology we will increase our efforts to deliver more fuel from clean, renewable resources, and bolster economic growth.”
Benefits of “biofuel”
Biodiesel has become America’s fastest growing alternative fuel according to the Department of Energy. Biodiesel comes from soybean oil, other renewable products, or from the technologically advanced recycling of other fats and vegetable oils. For every gallon of biodiesel used, that’s one less gallon of heating oil or diesel fuel used, which significantly reduces dependence on foreign oil.
Benefits of biofuel energy include:
* readily available, renewable supply of cleaner-burning fuel
* non-toxic and biodegradable
* healthier for home heating systems and allows diesel engines to produce lower emissions
* keeps air cleaner and helps stop global warming
* supports domestic agriculture
* extends U.S. supply of heating oil
* helps the country become energy independent
