Interested in helping Alachua County seniors and the disabled get to and from their jobs, medical appointments, recreational activities, grocery shopping and other life sustaining activities?MV Transportation Inc., the company responsible for transporting seniors and persons with disabilities throughout Alachua County, has partnered with Florida Works and the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce to recruit new drivers for the service. The partnership is part of MV’s new recruitment strategy in the Gainesville area, and is being managed by MV’s Special Projects Manager Ron Marovich.
Individuals with good driving records and clean criminal histories are encouraged to stop by the Florida Works office located at 4800 SW 13th Street in Gainesville to learn more about the driving positions available with MV. An open house and mini recruitment fair is being held on Friday, October 6 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Currently, there are 20 driver positions available that need to be filled immediately, said Marovich. Drivers will receive two weeks of paid training, and are eligible for family medical benefits.
“We aren’t just looking to hire drivers, we are looking to hire drivers who genuinely care about the specialized and specific needs of seniors and the disabled,” Marovich said. “This job is more about being a willing assistant to some of our most vulnerable citizens than it is about driving.”
Once the new drivers are on the road, transportations services will continue to improve throughout the area.
MV has been the Community Transportation Coordinator (CTC) for Alachua County since October 2003 when they were selected to manage and operate the service by
the county’s Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization (MTPO).
