GARDEN GROVE, CA: The Orange County Chapter of the California Chapter of the American Planning Association will host the annual Conference at the Hyatt Regency Orange County on October 22 – 25th.

Each year the California Chapter of the American Planning Association provides a Statewide Conference to provide networking and educational opportunities for its members. These popular conferences attract planning professionals from all over California, the United States and the world. Conferences typically include an opening reception in a special venue, keynote speakers, concurrent tracks of programs and seminars including practical "nuts and bolts" sessions, mobile workshops to local planning related venues, the CCAPA Awards Dinner, and the California Planning Foundation Auction to fund scholarships for planning students.

This year’s conference, “Reinventing Suburbia” will focus on dissecting the image of suburbia that has evolved to include higher densities, more affordable housing, and more mixed use, among other things.

Nearly one hundred sessions exploring some of California’s most pressing land planning issues are planned. Topics will include affordable housing, mixed use development, sustainability, and infill design. Keynote speakers will include Joel Kotkin, author and internationally recognized authority on global, economic, political, and social trends and Ed Chuchla, Vice President of Corporate Real Estate for the Walt Disney Company.

The annual conference gives the State’s planning professionals an opportunity to share best practices and explore approaches to improve our cities and counties.
