Pasadena, CA, October 6, 2006 (Open Release) – In an effort to let our military men and women who are stationed in foreign lands and seas know that their efforts are greatly appreciated, the volunteers at Soldiers’ Angels are hard at work on their “Holidays For Heroes” project to bring the spirit of the holidays to these dedicated Americans. This project also includes our wounded soldiers, both at home and in the hospitals overseas as the mission is to provide aid and comfort to service members wherever the United States raises it’s flag. Soldiers’ Angels invites Americans everywhere to participate in this project and to make your holiday even more special in the knowledge that you have shared this beautiful season with someone far away, who is protecting your freedom so that you can be with your loved ones.
This holiday season will once again see thousands and thousands of America’s bravest men and women standing guard over our freedom from locations around the world, who will not be able to share this special time of year with their families and long-time friends. Fellow service members of many of our deployed troops will be spending their holidays in hospital rooms as they recover from wounds they received in defense of our nation. While the holidays may highlight the mission’s importance of bringing freedom to others, it is also one of the most difficult times for our military men and women who are so far from their own loved ones.
“No project could be better suited to our goal of letting our soldiers know that they are loved and appreciated”, said Patti Patton-Bader, Founder of Soldiers’ Angels, “Our “Holidays For Heroes” project strives to make sure that every soldier in a combat area receives a gift of small, but welcome items and a card with holiday greetings and encouragement.” The gifts, which contain items such as a coffee mug bearing the Soldiers’ Angels logo, AT&T calling cards, hot cocoa and cider mix, candy and even socks are mailed to soldiers in combat areas and are hand delivered by volunteers from Soldiers’ Angels to patients in the hospitals in Germany and the USA.
“Collecting donations to support ‘Holidays For Heroes’ has been a wonderful project for schools, churches, businesses and even families”, said Debby Frerichs, Central Region Director. “The groups participating in the project know that they are doing something to help their fellow Americans. Many soldiers have no family and are forgotten at this time of year. In the past couple of years, we have received many thanks from deployed soldiers who say that the simple gift and a friendly letter from home warmed their hearts and raised their morale.”
