Dallas, Texas — Thompson & Knight LLP has announced plans to relocate its Dallas office to the Dallas Arts District. The Firm will lease approximately 170,000 square feet on four and a half floors in One Arts Plaza. This move, currently scheduled for early 2008, continues the Firm’s long-time commitment to Dallas’ Arts District and the city of Dallas.

“We are excited about our pending move to Lucy Billingsley’s One Arts Plaza, which anchors the Arts District. This decision is simply an extension of our unsurpassed commitment to, and involvement with, the city of Dallas and the Arts District,” says Pete Riley, the Firm’s managing partner.

“The Arts District has become the crown jewel of the city, a culmination made possible through significant public and private investment. Our clients and employees will benefit from easier access and better parking options, as well as faster and more secure technological capabilities,” says Riley.

Thompson & Knight’s legal representation of organizations in the Arts District dates back to 1970. The Firm has represented the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Bar Association and the Dallas Bar Foundation (both located in the historic Belo Mansion) in a variety of significant matters.

In addition to the legal assistance the Firm has provided, its historical impact on the Dallas civic community is distinguished.

Attorneys at Thompson & Knight have served on boards and as presidents of Arts District organizations since the early 1900s. Rhodes Baker, a name partner of Thompson, Knight, Baker, and Harris, served as President and Acting Director of the Dallas Art Association (now the Dallas Museum of Art) from 1926-1929. Many other attorneys have followed in his footsteps as leaders in the Dallas community. Presently Mike McCullough is on the Board of Directors for the Dallas Symphony Foundation and the Texas Ballet Theater; Molly Steele is Chair of the Dallas Bar Foundation; Dorothy Bjorck is on the Board of Trustees for The Dallas Opera; and John Cohn is on the Board of Governors for the Dallas Symphony Association.
To commemorate its 100th anniversary, in 1987, Thompson & Knight purchased, renovated and relocated a law office among the historic buildings in Old City Park, where it stands today (http://www.oldcitypark.org/LawOffice.aspx). During the past 20 years the Firm’s attorneys and employees have been active board members and regular volunteers of the park.

The Thompson & Knight Foundation was established in 1990 to lend financial assistance to civic and charitable organizations advocating the arts and other worthy programs. The Firm has given more than $1 million in financial support and legal services to Dallas Arts District organizations including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Museum of Art, Belo Mansion, Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, Dallas Opera, Dallas Theater Center, Dallas Center for Contemporary Art, and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

“After listening to the growing needs of Thompson & Knight and its passion and commitment to the arts, we couldn't think of a better location than the Arts District,” says Hunter Blanks, senior vice president of CB Richard Ellis. “We are honored to represent such a prestigious law firm as Thompson & Knight as well as support the new rejuvenation efforts of downtown Dallas by bringing a top notch company into the area.”
