Portsmouth, RI - September 30, 2006 - WebWilson.com Webwilson.com, the online auction company that last year sold a doorknob for $9200, announces that their 50th antique hardware auction is now open for bidding on the Internet
This auction may or may not produce a record-setting doorknob price but there is some very high end collector material being offered to the highest bidder. Among the top lots are a very rare buffalo knob, probably from the Kansas State Supreme Court Building, a dramatically styled U.S. Treasury knob and ornate back plate marked Russell and Erwin and dated 1878, a rare “moon and star” bin pull from an Odd Fellows Lodge, a door lever cast as the leg of a Gay 90s dance hall lady, and a bronze frog paperweight from Reading Hardware.
WebWilson.com produced their first antique hardware auction in 1995 and from the start they have built a reputation for quality, integrity, and record setting prices. They sold the first “doggie” door knob for $3600 in 1996, and a few years later, sold a rare variation of the doggie design for more than $8000.
When the Internet became accessible WebWilson.com was among the first to produce online auctions using their own web site and bidding software. Last year they worked with a group of professional antiques dealers to launch AntiquesYes.com, a vetted on line auction site with many custom features such as anonymous bidders and an extended bidding option. The WebWilson.com web site also includes a virtual museum and library and is considered the premiere Internet destination for all those seeking to learn about and to purchase antique builders’ hardware.
The WebWilson.com 50th Antique Hardware Auction is now open for bidding and will begin closing on Sunday, October 1st, beginning at 9pm. Lots close at one minute intervals and the AntiquesYes.com software allows for tracking favorites, several bidding options, and no hidden reserves.
