Legends of America Chases Ghosts on Route 66

The famed Route 66 from Illinois to California is littered with legends and tales, some of which are down right spooky. As www.LegendsOfAmerica.com traveled the Mother Road, writing about its unique characters and off beaten attractions, they’ve bumped into a several haunted hotels, ghosts lurking in restaurants, and a few haunting spirits that just seemingly enjoy a leisurely walk down this abandoned stretch of pavement.

Exploring these numerous tales, Legends of America features articles from the Haunted Inn in Springfield, Illinois to the Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica and everything in between. Ghost stories along Route 66 abound — like the one in the Hotel Monte Vista in Flagstaff, where many guests have been awakened by a phantom bell boy announcing room service, and at the old Natatorium in Amarillo, spectral figures have been seen and heard dancing to the distant sounds of the Big Band era. Where Route 66 intersects with another historic path, that of the Cherokee Trail of Tears, phantom Indians have been seen lurking about, and in Southwest Missouri and northeast Oklahoma, a bobbing “spook light” simply can’t be explained. One of the more notable haunts is the Lemp Mansion in St. Louis, recognized as one of the ten most haunted places in the United States. While there, Legends Of America obtained some interesting photographs which included unexplained phenomena, furthering the Bed and Breakfast’s ghostly image.
