Double birthday celebrations for online art gallery

This week also sees the 80th birthday of popular UK artist Beryl Cook. Photogold was one of the first art websites to sell work online in the UK .Photogold was set up in 1998 to promote art work and limited edition prints online. Photogold specialises in limited edition prints by top UK artists Beryl Cook and Jack Vettriano.

Online innovators Photogold has now expanded its reach by publishing 2 new sites for mobile phones and an interactive site on Sky TV.

Jack Vettriano faced controversy last year when it was revealed that some of the figures and poses in his paintings , including the Singing Butler , appeared to have been an exact copy of pictures in a £20 Illustrator’s Figure Reference Manual, a DIY art book published in 1987.

Along Came A Spider is one of his most popular works. The original painting was bought by Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson for £130,000.
