A four-acre showroom at Motherwell and a two-acre site in Merryfield Road, north Glasgow, have been developed to accommodate Lookers' Volvo dealerships in Hamilton and Glasgow."We bought these on a short-term lease and now we're moving both outlets," says David Dyson, Lookers financial director.
The Merryfield Road dealership now has three showrooms holding Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo. "We've redeveloped the site over six months at a cost of £2.5m," says Dyson.
"Everything is finished now except for the new 26-bay workshop. When this is complete, the old workshop will be refurbished to accommodate 40 used cars."
The group hopes to sell 750 new cars per year from the site.
Lookers' four-acre site at Motherwell has been reshaped to incorporate a £1.2m Volvo showroom in addition to the existing Land Rover, Jaguar, Volvo, Hyundai and Mazda franchises. The site can house up to 150 used cars and there is also a 30-bay workshop and bodyshop.
"With the improvements we're hoping to increase our annual new car sales by 250 units." says Dyson.
Lookers has also spent £1.25m rebuilding its Vauxhall showroom in St Helens.
