ST. LOUIS – Affinity purified polyclonal Ferritin antibodies and antigens are now available to the clinical research community from Lee Biosolutions, at LeeBio.com. Ferritin is a complex protein formed in the intestines that contains roughly 20% iron. Ferritin is found in the intestines, the spleen and the liver. Increased Ferritin levels have been found to indicate iron loading and medical conditions including haemochromatosis and certain types of anemia.
According to company President Burton Lee, the company began manufacturing the product for researchers studying metabolic disorders, chemotherapy, anemia caused by pregnancy, restless leg syndrome and a variety of other conditions.
“We are currently in the process of developing reactive antigens for our entire line of polyclonal antibodies,” Lee said. “We understand that researchers are constantly under time constraints and demands, so we’re trying to make it easier for them to get the materials they need in as few stops as possible.”
To collect the Ferritin antibody, rabbits were immunized with purified human ferritin in Freund’s adjuvant. The rabbits were bled and the serum was collected. The anti-Ferritin was immunoaffinity purified.
