Beijing, China – September 19, 2006 – Mr. Edward Lehman, managing director of LEHMAN, LEE & XU, conducted a taping today for CCTV 9’s Dialogue, in an episode which discusses the new Draft Bankruptcy Law, and its potential impact on Chinese businesses. The show was hosted by Tian Wei, who had a number of challenging questions for her guests. Mr. Lehman was joined by panelists Mr. Wang Weiguo, Assistant President of China University of Politics and Law and Dean of its School of Civil, Commercial and Economic Law, and Mr. Chunlin Zhang, Senior Enterprise Restructuring Specialist for the World Bank. Of particular note, Mr. Wang was part of the team which drafted the new bankruptcy law. Edward Lehman was selected to this distinguished panel due to his nearly 20 years of experience in China advising both foreign and Chinese clients on a wide variety of corporate matters, including bankruptcy.
The draft law took over 10 years to complete, and is expected to replace the 1986 laws on subject matter, which were promulgated for trial implementation. Many have commented that the laws will do much to develop China's economy, providing a comprehensive legal framework to replace the numerous laws which collaterally regulated bankruptcy. Mr. Lehman was positive about the law, and its impact on the Chinese economy and nation, as a whole.
Dialogue has become an important show for both foreigners and Chinese, providing a forum for discussion of issues impacting on China. The show will air later this month.
