Merinews sponsors India’s Biggest Bloggers’ Unconference

Merinews, India’s first participatory news portal, was the proud online media and venue sponsors of Blog Camp, the biggest ever bloggers’ conference in India till date. The two day event was held in Chennai, India on the 9th and 10th of September. The response from citizen journalists and bloggers from all across the country and abroad was extremely heartening. The event was attended by more than 200 active bloggers and was actively followed online as well. The conference or the unconference (as it was described by the organisers) included lectures, interactive quizzes, hallway discussions, debates and games. Variety was the highlight of the two-day event that hosted a range of presentations. Mr Sharad Haksar dwelled on digital photography. His 39-mega-pixel camera delighted the audience to the hilt. Mr Peter Griffin, blogger and copywriter, revealed that the blog he created after tsunami in December 2004, has received more than a million visitors. Professional blogger Amit Agarwal shared information on blog monetisation. The Co-founder of merinews, Mr Anshuman Misra took up the cause of citizen journalism. He emphasised that if taken up properly it can be turned into one of the most powerful form of media.
World-famous corporate blogger Robert Scoble and cricketer-turned-podcaster Sunil Gavaskar were some of the celebrity guests on the occasion. The audience participated with tireless enthusiasm in debates on various issues like how blogging enters the mainstream, blogging as a collaborative activity, blogs as a marketing tool, blogs as a revenue model, wordpress 2.0, ajaxifying of blogs, Impact of citizen journalism, photo blogging & so on.
