GPS Horizon meshing with Meshcom
September 15, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Helsinki, Finland and New Jersey, USA — September 15, 2006 — Meshcom, the leader in high-performance wireless mesh-enabling software, today announced that the US-based company GPS Horizon has chosen Meshcom to provide a mesh-enabling solution for their Marine NAV/COM System. GPS Horizon’s Navcell is the first mesh-enabled computer-based navigational system that enables wireless mesh networking over open-waters. For GPS Horizon’s requirements, Meshcom’s technology provides the only solution to withstand the marine, navigational, and the harsh open-water environment. By utilizing Meshcom’s technology, Navcells can see each other's GPS position, send and receive instant text messages, receive general data instrumental to navigational safety and connect to any on-shore "access point" for an Internet connection.
This is the first phase of an open-water meshed network. “Meshcom meets our specific current meshing needs and will also be our base for future open-water developments. “Meshcom Technologies’ ability to successfully develop, test and deploy its Mesh Networking Software made it possible, for the first time, to consider mesh-enabling our Navcell Navigational Systems, offering the end user the full benefits of a reliable self-configuring, self-healing network. This will complete our objective in providing the most functional navigational system over open-waters in today’s market”, William Randazzo, CEO of GPS Horizon, says.
"While early mesh networking initiatives were driven by metropolitan, public safety, and hard-to-wire areas, today there is a dramatic shift in awareness that will have huge and permanent effects as new markets and business spaces are utilizing this proven technology to enhance their offering, image, and marketability.", Dennis Guerra, Sales Manager of Meshcom, explains.
The combination of GPS Horizon's Navcell and Meshcom’s mesh-enabling technology will offer leisure boaters, commercial vessels and off-shore users the connectivity needed for real-time vessel tracking and networking. The mesh-enabled Navcell is currently undergoing testing and will be available soon.
