Controversial artist Jack Vettriano has released a new set of limited edition giclee prints on http://www.photogold.co.uk . The featured images are Game On , Private Dancer , Night Geometry , Pincer Movement , Night and the City and His Favourite Girl . Jack Vettriano faced controversy last year when it was revealed that some of the figures and poses in his paintings , including the Singing Butler , appeared to have been an exact copy of pictures in a £20 Illustrator's Figure Reference Manual, a DIY art book published in 1987.Along Came A Spider is one of his most popular works . The original painting was bought by Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson for £130,000. Vettriano's intimate portrait of a half-dressed woman preparing to leave her lover after a tryst is titled A Very Married Woman. She certainly is. The brunette portrayed in the painting is thought to be the artist's married mistress.Margaret Deas, 32, appears in three of his new works, all apparently inspired by their relationship.
Mrs Deas can be seen in an exhibition of the painter's work called Love, Devotion And Surrender at Kirkcaldy Art Gallery , Scotland. As well as A Very Married Woman, which shows a man resembling Vettriano holding his head in despair as his mistress puts her hair up, Her Secret Life shows a woman with a striking resemblance to Mrs Deas making a hushed telephone call from a payphone. His Beautiful Girl also features an image of a woman from the back which is similar to these panitings .
The third picture, titled A Long Time Gone, shows a couple embracing passionately in the shadow of Methil power station. Vettriano said recently: "The model is called Maggie. She's the muse for most of the paintings in my new show. Maggie and I are friends." Divorced at 26, he has vowed never to marry again.
"I'm not an attractive guy, but fame bestows something of that on you. If you take a man who's spent his life working for other people and suddenly he's got a bit of money and is his own boss, of course he's going to misbehave." Sexual tension is one of the recognised hallmarks of his art, along with a distinct sense of danger and seedy nightlife..
In 2004 eight new silkscreens were published - Along Came a Spider , Game of Life ,Parlour of Temptation , Table for One , Altar of memory , Words of Wisdom , Models in the Studio and Drifters. They are highly collectible and many of these prints are now sold out. Hand-printed by Advanced Graphics London onto the highest quality hand made paper using 35 colours, each silkscreen is limited to an edition of 275. Each one has been individually signed and numbered in pencil by the artist
