Queens, NY, – On Monday, September 25, Queens Child Guidance Center (QCGC) will hold its 2006 Raymond J. Cook Annual Golf Outing at the Old Westbury Golf & Country Club in Old Westbury, NY beginning at 8:30 AM. Throughout the day, golfers will have the chance to participate in The JetBlue Challenge, where they will have the opportunity to win a Grand Prize of $50,000 for a hole-in-one. Additional hole-in-one prizes include automobiles and a 5-day/4-night trip for two. The Evening Banquet, which begins at 5 PM, will feature a sports memorabilia auction, a live and silent auction, and a raffle table, all of which will offer fabulous prizes. Named in honor of the late Raymond J. Cook, the former President of Cook & Krupa, Inc., a Long Island City-based real estate development/construction firm, this golf outing brings together many of Cook’s friends and colleagues to help accomplish what Cook loved doing best – helping others.
“Ray was always ready to help, always kind and generous, a man who cared for children and a man who the children of QCGC could count on,” expressed Hank Auffarth, President of Queens Child Guidance Center. “If we needed a kitchen installed, a new sink, lighting, whatever it was, Ray took care of it. He would have the problem addressed immediately. And I can’t think of a better way of honoring Ray each year than by playing his favorite game.”
“In addition, I am thrilled that Ray’s son, John Cook is on our committee, and that Carol Cook, Ray’s wife, who serves as Honorary Chairperson for the outing, has joined our Board of Directors at QCGC. Like Ray, Carol has been an important member of the QCGC family for almost 15 years, and we look forward to her continued support.”
Co-chairs of this year’s QCGC event are Gary Arcieri and Gary Tabackman. Single player tickets are $500 and a foursome is $2,000. Those who wish to register may call 718-651-7770 or go online to www.qcgc.org. Last year’s golf outing raised over $85,000.
About Queens Child Guidance Center
Queens Child Guidance Center was established in 1953. Our mission is to promote the emotional well-being of children and their families. The Center supports children and families at community and school-based sites so that they grow to feel loved, secure and self confident; be successful in school and/or later work; and have empathy for others. We counsel children, adolescents and parents with problems such as adjusting to life in a new country, depression, acting out behavior and substance use. We intervene to protect children from abuse and neglect. We visit homes to safeguard children and youth who have thoughts of harming themselves or others. We enhance the development of children and youth through tutoring, after-school programs and day care. Our bilingual and bicultural staff, who collectively speak more than 30 languages, serve 12,000 children and their families annually.
