In a look-alike world, where most jewelry looks like it came off an assembly line, the D.A.Y.S. Collection is establishing itself as a distinctive and distinguished jewelry line. The collection is created by the talented mother/daughter team of Yana Berlin (mom) and Stepania Shkolnik (daughter). Yana was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and moved to the USA as a child. An accomplished artist, she includes painting and jewelry design among her artistic endeavors. Stepania, an emerging artist, creates jewelry along the principles of design and color theory taught to her by her mother.

The pair likes taking risks in their designs, creating bold, glamorous and sophisticated pieces. Their Russian heritage influences their creations: visions of the opulent Old Europe aristocracy is manifested in each piece, yet symbiotically merges with the new materials and design applications to create totally fresh and contemporary pieces. The theme of contrasts continues with the generation gap between mother and daughter who have used this to their advantage by melding their personal taste and ideas to create jewelry that is classic yet thoroughly modern – like beautiful pearls strung on twisted gold-filled wire for a cutting edge approach to an age-old classic necklace.

Stepania says “We are proud of our Russian roots and are always thinking of new ways to incorporate our culture into our pieces to portray our ethnicity. My mother’s ideas are heavily influenced by reminiscing on her days in St. Petersburg, while my ideas are collected from my observations of present day America. Together we are able to design and produce pieces that are powerful and that make a statement”. The pair uses only top notch gems and materials in their designs which are handcrafted and will never be mass produced. The silver plated, Swarovski crystal encrusted pendants are designed by Stepania.

This new Fall/Winter 07 collection, named Canfetkee (which translates to “candy” to recall the sweet splurges that is this jewelry) is already raising eyebrows and has been noticed by several prominent figures in the entertainment industry. The D.A.Y.S. jewelry is now being worn by Leeza Gibbons and Dayna Devon of EXTRA.
