September is National Preparedness Month: Are you prepared? Simply Organized LifeSM Provides Tips
This September marks National Preparedness Month, a nationwide effort to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies at home, work or school. National Preparedness Month is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. For the first time the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) has signed on as a national coalition member.
As a NAPO member Simply Organized LifeSM is providing the public with five simple tips to help individuals and families be more prepared in the event of an emergency.
1) Organize a “Grab and Go” File
Gather up important household and family records such as insurance policies and birth certificates to store in one convenient location.
2) Take Inventory
Go to www.ready.gov for a list of recommended items to have in an emergency supply kit. You may already have many of these items.
3) Prepare an Emergency Supply Kit
Add the items you have to an emergency supply kit. It should include a three day supply of food and water for each family member.
4) Make a Plan
What will you do in the event of an emergency? Create a plan for your family and your neighborhood. Don’t forget your pets.
5) Be Informed
Access local media to know what the potential threats are in your area.
