Consumer Debt in America Tips Scales at 2.2 Trillion

America is in crisis. Consumer debt has skyrocketed to a whopping $2.2 trillion dollars and in 2005 Americans actually spent more than they took home. As interest rates creep upward, Americans put less and less money away in savings every year. America has appeared to return to the consumer attitude of the 1980’s: “He who dies with the most toys wins”. This mentality continues to plunge American’s further and further into debt while eradicating their savings. Furthermore as fuel increases and mortgage rates increase, people are discovering they are unprepared to manage their household finances. Based on these increases, they are finding themselves facing new credit issues and are seeking ways to reduce spending.
