CJD Aware!, a non-profit, New Orleans-based, information organization will observe 'National Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Awareness Week' this year (November 12-18) with a special Remembrance Page on their official website displaying the names of loved-ones from families nation-wide who have died from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

"We are inviting anyone who has lost a loved-one from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) to email/or mail to us the name of their loved-one, date of death and the state where the individual lived. By listing the states that CJD victims are from, we can bring attention to the fact that this disease affects us nation-wide, and even world-wide. We will then post this information on our Remembrance Page on November 12 where it will remain during 'National CJD Awareness Week'," remarked Christy Brom, founder of CJD Aware!

Ms. Brom founded CJD Aware! in the spring of 2002, after the death of her mother, Sara Brom (age 66), from the sporadic form of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. "Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is one of the greatest 'mystery illnesses' of mankind, and knows no boundaries in regards to male, female, race, or age." added Ms. Brom.

National Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Awareness Week was inaugurated in 2004, when Gillian Turner, coordinator for the CJD Support Group Network in Great Britain, invited support groups around the world to join with them in observing November 12 as 'International CJD Awareness Day' with some group or community activity to promote Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease awareness.

"This was a wonderful idea," commented Ms. Brom, "so CJD Aware! decided to have a CJD Awareness Week, and get the Governors from all 50-states to sign a CJD proclamation proclaiming 'National CJD Awareness Week' in their respective states. We have 23 signed proclamations since we began our 'CJD Awareness Week' campaign in 2004. This year we're adding a special 'Remembrance Page' to our website," added Ms. Brom.

"The CJD Support Group Network based in Australia will be having a fundraising dinner in Sydney, on Friday, November 10 to commemorate 'International CJD Awareness Day', and we hope other support groups around the globe will join us as we observe this important
time in November," remarked Ms. Brom.
